First Year Experience

The First Year Experience (FYE) program ensures that every new cadet, including those transferring from other institutions, experiences a positive orientation and transition to campus. Through FYE seminars, mentorships, and introductory academic coursework, cadets gain skills to help them succeed at Cal Maritime and build a sense of community through shared experiences.

FYE Seminars

Through a combination of all-academy events, large-group meetings, and small-group meetings, the FYE Seminar brings together first-year and transfer cadets for regular activities that are an extension of the Orientation experience. Cadets deepen their knowledge of shared resources and communication. The FYE office works to empower and support every cadet to be successful and thrive. In addition to supporting new cadets' transitions, the FYE office also employs Otter Orientation Leaders, providing high-quality leadership and job opportunities to over 30 young people each year.
