Building Access and Security
Training Ship Golden Bear Access
Cal Maritime Academy Police Department personnel, augmented by the Student Watch, control and limit access to the campus by monitoring access on the quarter deck leading into Training Ship Golden Bear. Students, faculty, and staff are issued the Cal Maritime Port Pass Identification Card upon enrollment or employment on the campus, therefore the Port Pass is required for access to the Training Ship at all times.
Building Access
Academic building keys and keyless access via electronic access cards are administered by Facilities Management. Academic and administrative buildings are secured no later than 10:00 pm Monday through Friday (except during special events or extended classes). They are closed on weekends and holidays. The Student Center is secured at midnight. Anyone requesting access after hours may contact the Police Dispatch center for access. Access to these buildings after normal operating hours is restricted to persons presenting written authorization from the appropriate department head or through prior arrangements with the appropriate administrator and Police. Holiday access scheduling is treated as weekend access.
*Building Access Procedures*
All requests for Unlocks and/or Lockups must be made the day of the event. The requesting party will need to contact Police Dispatch to request an officer to both unlock and secure the doors before and after your event. Please call (707) 654-1176, for all Unlock and Lockup Requests.
Residence Halls
Residence hall key access is controlled by the Office of Housing & Residential Life and the IT Department. CSU Maritime Academy offers three traditional residence halls (Upper, Lower, and McAllister) and Training Ship Golden Bear that provide on-campus housing for over 720 students. Access is limited to residents, escorted guests, and staff. Residence Hall Officers (RHOs) reside in the halls and on the ship. RHOs are on duty during weeknights from 8pm – 8am and weekends from 9pm-8am.
Access to the Upper Residence Hall and McAllister Hall after normal working hours is via a card key system on the front west and east doors. Housing & Residential Life staff secure the main entrance to Upper Residence Hall at 4:30pm Monday through Friday, and the building is secured on the weekends, only accessible to students who live in Upper Residence Hall and the Residence Hall staff. Entry to the Lower Residence Hall is controlled by keyed access to hallways, and entry to McAllister Residence Hall is via the main entrance and individual rooms via Port Pass for residents of those buildings.
Students should contact the University Police Department if they see suspicious individuals in the residence halls. Students must make locking their room door a habit.
Courtesy Phones
Each phone is capable of placing a call to any number on campus. The Cal Maritime Academy Police Department regularly tests these phones and submits requests for repair as necessary. A "direct line" phone is located in front of the Administration Building, (near the main doors, north side entrance). When you pick up the handset, the phone automatically connects to the Benicia Police Department.
