License School
The License School, launched by Cal Maritime in 2001 is designed to meet the needs of the smaller vessel approved courses, including testing at the Operator Uninspected Passenger Vessel (OUPV), 100 Ton and 200 Ton levels. Other classes include Towing Endorsement and Sail Auxiliary. The OUPV license is the entry-level operator or master's license issued by the Coast Guard. Familiarly known as the "Six-pack", it authorizes the holder to operate an uninspected vessel carrying no more than six passengers for hire. The OUPV is ideal for recreational boaters who wish to charter their vessels and it is the first license for professional mariners who wish to subsequently be approved for the 100 and 200 Ton Licenses. Once you have received a certification of completion from The License School you can apply directly to the Coast Guard for a license without further testing.
