Extended Learning FAQs
Q: Who may enroll?
All Extended Learning courses are open to adults, at least 18 years old. No prior college education is required. Students should have good oral and written English skills to successfully participate in any of the training courses.
Registration does NOT guarantee a seat in the class. The Extended Learning Department requires a 50% deposit on all courses. Space is reserved and students are considered enrolled only when the Extended Learning department receives the 50% deposit for any of the courses.
Q: Do I have to pay a deposit when I sign up for a class?
A deposit of 50% for all courses must be received no later than (2) two calendar weeks prior to class start date. (This does not apply to companies with direct billing.) Deposits can be made with credit and debit cards via our online registration and payment system (https://commerce.cashnet.com/csum_xl).
Course fees can be paid with credit or debit cards at both our Vallejo Extended Learning location or The Maritime Safety and Security Center (MSSC) in Richmond.
Q: What are the course fees?
Course fees are noted in the schedule of classes next to each course. All course fees and balances are due in full (2) two calendar weeks prior to the fist day of each class. A 10% late registration fee will be added if not paid in full by (2) two calendar weeks prior to the beginning of class. Extended Learning cannot offer financial assistance for courses.
Q: What is your refund policy?
Extended Learning will provide a full refund if a student cancels 15 or more calendar days before the start of the class with an acknowledged confirmation via phone or email, less a $50.00 administrative fee. Cancellations received between 14 and 7 calendar days before the start of the class will be charged a fee of 25% of the class tuition. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the start of the class will receive a 50% refund of class tuition. Cancellations received one day prior to or on the start of the class will receive no refund. Students who are registered yet fail to attend, as well as those who do not complete the program, will not be eligible for refunds. The Extended Learning department reserves the right to cancel a class at their discretion and will issue a full refund if any class is cancelled. NO EXCEPTIONS.
