Model United Nations
The Model United Nations program at California State University Maritime Academy offers students the opportunity to learn about global issues and international politics in a fun and interactive team environment. Our Cal Maritime MUN team exemplifies learning by doing by applying what they learn in the classroom to real world issues that affect us all.
Model UN simulations engage hundreds of thousands of students each year, helping them to learn more about the principles of the UN and how it functions. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and the arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as students.
Cal Maritime's MUN program creates a space where all students – regardless of their major –can come together, get involved, and build lasting friendships. Students who participate in MUN gain essential life skills like the following:
- Critical and creative thinking
- Problem-solving
- Decision making
- Effective communication
- Interpersonal relationship skills
- Team and rapport building
- Conflict resolution
Cal Maritime's MUN team competes at conferences up and down the West Coast during the the fall and spring semesters. All majors are welcome to join. Contact Professor Chris Chiego at cchiego@csum.edu or (707)654-1148 if you are interested in joining the team (or enrolling in the Model UN class). Check out some highlights from previous competitions below.
