Virtual APL for CSU Faculty & Staff (January 24 - March 16)
Using an iPad or a Mac? Join Apple Professional Learning Specialist, Dr. Laura Good,
for hands-on virtual learning sessions with your colleagues from across the CSU. During
each one-hour session, we’ll explore resources, practice new skills, and reflect on
how technology can support great teaching and learning in higher education. To prepare
for a session:
• Have your iPad/Mac on hand and fully charged for an optimal experience.
• Make sure your device is updated to the latest OS version and all Apple apps are
up-to-date.
• Download the Pages, Freeform, and GarageBand apps as appropriate from the App Store,
if not already on your
device.

Week 1: Increase Your Productivity with iPad
Explore how to plan, collaborate, and communicate on iPad. We’ll learn how to personalize
iPad settings and use built-in apps to increase productivity for your daily needs.

Week 2: Promote Active Learning with iPad
Increase engagement and encourage learner conversation using iPad. We’ll review elements
of learning resources, and consider interactive classroom opportunities using mobile
technologies.

Week 3: Design Accessible Learning Resources
Using the Pages app, we’ll explore Accessibility features that address learning challenges
for those with vision, hearing, mobility and cognitive needs, to help you design accessible
resources for your courses.

Week 4: Annotate for Understanding
Examine creative ways to annotate learning resources in Photos and Notes using Markup.
We’ll discuss annotation strategies as a metacognition tool for teaching and learning.

Week 5: Visual Thinking with Freeform
Explore thinking routines using the Freeform app. You’ll learn how to gather ideas
and collaborate via boards, to create dynamic visuals that illustrate those ideas,
and share understanding.

Week 6: Explore Podcasts for Teaching and Learning
Ever wondered how to create a podcast? Using GarageBand, we’ll take a guided tour
through creating these unique multimedia tools, and discuss creative ways to apply
them in college courses.

Week 7: Animate with Keynote
Using Keynote, we’ll examine to create elegant and engaging presentations with built-in
animation and transition tools, as well as your own drawings, videos, and images.

Week 8: Personalize Presentations with Live Video
Building on our presentation skills in Keynote, we’ll explore how to create more powerful
and personal presentations with the live video feature, useful for both synchronous
and asynchronous instruction.
