Welcome to Cal Maritime!

As soon as you step on campus, you know Cal Maritime is unique.

Cal Maritime is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States — and the only one on the West Coast. The small residential campus environment here at Cal Maritime creates a true living learning laboratory. Our waterfront location offers a vantage point from which to realize a horizon of enormous opportunity.

We are a tight-knit campus community dedicated to supporting students through a transformative journey and dynamic college experience. Graduates leave our campus and enter  rewarding careers that reach across the globe. As we near our centennial mark, we continue to excel in the areas of social mobility and earnings performance. Our institution is recognized year-after-year for top performances in academic reputation, cost of attendance and return on investment.

Most recently, Cal Maritime earned multiple spots on the badge-eligible list of U.S. News and World Report's list of 2024 Best Colleges and scored No. 1 for Top Public Schools and ranked No. 2 out of 103 for Regional Colleges-West.  Cal Maritime was also included on Forbes' list of America’s Top Colleges 2023. Forbes’ annual list showcases 500 of the finest U.S. colleges, ranked using data on student success, return on investment and alumni influence.

These top rankings would come as no surprise if you’ve met any one of our students.

Because of our world-class faculty and staff, Cal Maritime is known for graduating some of the best and brightest leaders in the world and providing life-changing opportunities for the next generation of trained mariners, engineers, scientists, policymakers, business professionals, military service members, and global leaders. It is my intent that our cadets, graduate students, faculty, and staff are treated with kindness and respect, so everyone is in an environment where they can perform their important work – regardless of their role on campus – with purpose and meaning.

Together, as a campus community, we will continue to build upon this institution’s legacy of academic excellence, rigor, and unrivaled relevancy in America’s Pacific Century.
