Welcome aboard!

This voyage has been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to have a new group of cadets aboard for Summer Sea Term 2024! It will surely be an exciting voyage, with new experiences aplenty.

Follow the Voyage showcases the thrilling journey of Summer Sea Term through the eyes of
cadets at the California State University Maritime Academy. The first couple of days have
marked an unforgettable milestone: the beginning of our training cruise, where cadets dive
headfirst into hands-on experiences that shape them into seasoned mariners. Excitement fills the air as cadets eagerly anticipate what lies ahead. Back in uniform and brimming with enthusiasm, they gather on board, ready to conquer the challenges that await
them.

The day kicks off with the essential rituals of maritime life: fire and abandon ship drills. With
safety as the utmost priority, cadets practice their training to ensure they are well-prepared for
any emergency situation that may arise at sea.

During the fire drill, cadets swiftly spring into action, demonstrating their proficiency in handling
fire fighting equipment and executing evacuation procedures with speed and precision. Their
training and teamwork shine through as they work seamlessly to be prepared for a fire on board,
showcasing the invaluable knowledge and practical training they've acquired at CSU Maritime
Academy.

Following the fire drill, the cadets moved onto the abandon ship protocol, a critical exercise that
prepares them for the unlikely event of having to evacuate the vessel. With practiced efficiency,
they head to their rooms to gather their life jackets and immersion suits then quickly assemble
at their designated muster stations, demonstrating their readiness to respond swiftly and
decisively.

As drills concluded, cadets have not only honed their technical skills, but have
strengthened their bonds with one another as they practice the drills that inevitably keep
everyone safe and accounted for out at sea.

Stay tuned as we continue to record the adventures of our cadets at CSU Maritime Academy,
where each day brings new lessons, experiences, and opportunities for growth on the high
seas. Fair winds and following seas!
