Ahoy!
During our LA port visit, we were honored to host CSU Chancellor Dr. Mildred García aboard TS Golden Bear. Captain Bannister along with cadets Sarai Alonso and Ryan Madden provided her with an in-depth tour of the vessel. It was a wonderful opportunity to make this connection and we are grateful to Chancellor García for her time, and her care and support of our cherished Academy.
President Mike Dumont, Captain Bannister, and Chancellor García met ashore prior to the vessel tour. We were able to welcome her and her family, along with multiple staff members from the Chancellor's Office aboard for tours and greetings.
Areas covered in the tour were the "green deck" where cadet divisional murals are located, the Bridge, Bow, EOS, and Bridge Sim.
While on the Bridge, Chancellor García spoke over the PA system to convey a special message to all cadets, staff, faculty, and crew aboard.
Captain Bannister tells Chancellor García a sea story about the anchor chain on the bow.
Training Ship Corp Commander and 1C Engine Cadet Sarai Alonso explaining what happens in the Engine Operating Space (EOS) while cadets are on watch or completing daywork tasks.
Cadet Ryan Madden showing Chancellor García and her nephew how to operate the Bridge Simulator.
We finished off the tour with greeting cadets who were on daywork.
Thank you so much to Chancellor García and her team for making the time and effort to visit TSGB - we look forward to having you all aboard again in the future :)
Fair winds and following seas!
