Ahoy!

Only two days left until we reach our final port of call for Summer Sea Term 2024, Los Angeles.

Two consecutive weeks is a long time for cadets to be at sea, and everyone has done well and kept their spirits high despite the lengthy transit. We are busy wrapping up our to-do lists prior to our arrival in CA. After we depart LA, we will have our final week at sea, and cadets will finish up their underway training. Many cadets have already "passed" cruise academically, so it should be smooth sailing from here! We have around 65 cadets from Los Angeles, and we are excited for those who will reconnect with family and friends during this port visit.

Now for some fun-facts/stats from our time at sea - we've accomplished a lot since we've left Vallejo!

  • We crossed the International Date Line twice this voyage - the first time on June 22nd (we skipped June 23rd and went forward in time!) and the second time on July 20th (we repeated July 20th and went back in time).
  • We have changed time zones 15 times and have one more change before we reach LA on Monday - which basically means we got good sleep the first half of the voyage, and everyone has been extra tired on our voyage back from the Far East!!!
  • As of July 20th, we traveled 9197.2 NM - we are expected to have traveled 12432.0 NM total upon our return to Vallejo.
  • We've used roughly 6,000lbs of chicken, 5,000lbs of potatoes, and 1,000lbs of coffee! #tired
  • We've burned over 235,000 gallons of diesel.
