Transit Seattle to Honolulu

The unique nature of sailing – merchant or otherwise - becomes apparent the further you travel from the coastline. With our current position being over 1,000 nautical miles from shore, assistance is not arriving quickly, and we must rely on each other should an emergency occur. This is one of many reasons why it is important to be well-versed in the emergency protocols and procedures such as firefighting!

The first class (1/C) cadets take up a natural role in the teaching and mentoring of these procedures onboard as they transfer their experience from both training cruise and commercial cruise evolutions to the third class (3/C) cadets. Featured below is Cadet Kalani Asano (1/C) of the famed division, 2D, providing instructions to his 3/C cadets on how to work together as firefighting hose teams.
