For the second year in a row, Cal Maritime has taken first place at the University of North Florida Logistics and Supply Chain Competition. Our incredible students—Savannah Homuth, Nikhil Hunter, Brett Furrer, and Zack Linville—stood out on a national stage with their sharp problem-solving, deep industry knowledge, and confident presentation. Tasked with analyzing alternative tariff scenarios and forecasting TEU volumes for 2025, they delivered smart, strategic recommendations for how a fictional railroad could prepare for an uncertain future. Their performance earned a unanimous win from a panel of top logistics industry leaders.
This back-to-back victory is a powerful reflection of our students’ hard work, innovative thinking, and the outstanding education they receive in Cal Maritime’s International Business and Logistics program. Huge thanks to Dr. Khalid Bachkar for building a strong logistics foundation and to Dr. Joshua Shackman for equipping students with the analytical tools they needed to shine. We are also grateful for the financial support of the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA) who helped fund the team’s travel. With competitors from top schools like University of Arkansas, University of Maryland and Georgia Southern, this win puts Cal Maritime firmly on the map as a leader in supply chain education.
