For the second time in her Cal Maritime career, Alicia Porter earned National Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades when NAIA officials announced its selection on December 13.
The Simi Valley, California native received this award less than 24 hours after the California Pacific Conference named the junior guard/forward as its Player of the Week.
In last week's game at rival Pacific Union, Porter posted the fourth-highest single-game point total in league history when she scored 41 points — on 15 of 24 shooting from the floor combined with eight made free throws — to fuel Cal Maritime's come-from-behind victory.
By collecting a game-high 12 rebounds, Porter also posted her fifth double-double of the season out of the Keelhaulers' first seven games played.
With that performance against the Pioneers, Porter will enter the Cal Pac's third week of conference competition ranked No. 1 in the league with a 29.3 ppg scoring average (the NAIA's No. 2 figure) and No. 2 with her 12.4 per-game figure (No. 8 among all NAIA players) — 0.3 rpg behind the league's top spot.
Combined with last season's performance at Pacific Union when she finished with a career-high 43 points and 26 boards, another career high that doubles as the Cal Pac's all-time single-game record, Porter is responsible for two of the conference's top four single-game scoring totals.
