(Vallejo, California – February 17, 2020) – The ninth annual Women in Maritime Leadership Conference is set for February 28-29 on the campus of California State University Maritime Academy.

The event is open to all and features programming for college students, recent graduates, and professionals. Women in Maritime Leadership offers opportunities for leadership development and productive networking for women in maritime and related fields and those who support them. The conference offers a robust program on maritime culture and trends, the many facets of leadership, and developing self and others on a team.

Presenters include Pati Navalta Poblete, a longtime Bay Area journalist who previously served as editorial writer and columnist for The San Francisco Chronicle, where she was twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. She later worked as Asia regional director for Global Footprint Network, an international organization that works with governments and agencies to shape sustainability policies. She is currently the founder and executive director of the Robby Poblete Foundation, a nonprofit organization named for her son who was killed in 2014. The Foundation's mission is to reduce gun violence through buyback programs, transforming the weapons into instruments of hope and opportunity through art and vocational programming.

Ally Cedeno, founder and president of the Women Offshore Foundation will also present at the conference. Women Offshore is an online organization and resource center for a diverse workforce on the water – providing resources to foster long-term careers and sharing the latest on gender diversity and inclusion in the offshore and maritime industries.

Piya Kishore, a senior human resources business partner for LinkedIn, will also speak at the conference. Kishore has carved out a niche as an advisor to engineers and their businesses.

Other presenters include Gladys Diva Brown, airport director at Yuma International and a graduate of Cal Maritime, and Betsy Strines, a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Strines is a leadership development consultant with the Leadership Foundry.
