November was Blanket Donation Month at Cal Maritime and the Keelhaulers wrapped it up by delivering a bounty of blankets.
The Cal Maritime Department of Athletics and Physical Education gathered up blankets for a great cause as the winter months bring cold temperatures, even in the Bay Area.
The blankets will be distributed by Meals on Wheels of Solano County and distributed on their meal runs. This is the second year that Cal Maritime has participated in the Blanket Drive, which organized by the Vallejo Peace Project to benefit Meals on Wheels.
Cal Maritime's Community Engagement Coordinator, JoEllen Myslik, spearheaded the drive on campus.
"Because we have a campus team that delivers meals on Mondays, we are able to personally deliver blankets ourselves this year," Myslik said. "These blankets will not only help keep our local seniors warm this winter, but they are also a small holiday gift for them."
"We had two no-sew, blanket-making activities where students created blankets to donate," Myslik added. "But the donations from Athletics & Physical Education have more than doubled our total contribution to this project! I am incredibly grateful that Athletics fully embraced this service endeavor so we can help share the gift of warmth this winter!"
