(Vallejo, California – October 2, 2019) – California State University Maritime Academy
in collaboration with California Clean Air Coalition hosted a Clean Air Day event
today on the School's Vallejo, California campus.
This event is part of Cal Maritime's larger sustainability initiative to implement
sustainability in operations, curriculum, and community. Clean air is one major goal
of Cal Maritime's sustainability program.
The Academy is in the process of installing EV chargers in the campus to support
the campus's clean transportation strategy through electrification, aligning with
CSU's sustainability policy.
"Clean air day provides us with the opportunity to examine our individual and collective
behaviors with regard to reducing emissions entering our atmosphere," said Cal Maritime
President Tom Cropper. "Whether from energy use, waste streams or other impacts, we
can make a difference in the air we breathe through conservation, replacements of
legacy equipment, investment in renewable energy and reuse technologies, and smart
design of future infrastructure. I applaud our cadets, faculty, staff and business
partners who are advancing us on the path to greater sustainability at Cal Maritime."
In addition to highlighting Cal Maritime's sustainability initiatives and encouraging
the campus community to reduce vehicle emissions, plant something, and switch to natural
cleaning products, the campus hosted representatives from multiple companies and organizations,
including Mobi Gen, demonstrating their Free Wire Technology; ChargePoint EV Charging;
Lightning Systems all-electric trucks and buses; EcoVox Energy Analytics; the City
of Vallejo; and the Cal Maritime Wind Energy Team, winners of the U.S. Department
of Energy's 2018 Collegiate Wind Competition
