The 2020 edition of U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges ranks California State University Maritime Academy first among public colleges in the western region, and #23 in its list of Top Performers for Social Mobility.
In the annual publication, Cal Maritime is second overall in the western region, and the undergraduate engineering program is ranked #68 among all non-doctoral programs. U.S. News and World Report's rankings compare bachelor's degree-granting institutions from across the U.S. on 15 measures of academic quality.
"Cal Maritime alumni, students, faculty, and staff should be proud of the national attention that the Academy continues to receive for student outcomes and alumni achievements," said President Tom Cropper. "We strive to graduate alumni who are prepared to take leadership roles in industry and society."
Washington Monthly's College Guide, which rates schools for their overall contribution to the public good, recently ranked Cal Maritime 11th nationally and first in the West. Among baccalaureate colleges in the west, Cal Maritime ranked 15th in "bang for the buck" – a category which reflects the degree to which schools help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
CNBC ranked Cal Maritime 17th among public universities nationally when comparing graduate salaries to cost of attendance. Money magazine rated Cal Maritime the number 20 small college in America. The U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard ranks Cal Maritime first among public California universities for graduate earnings 10 years after enrollment.
