(Vallejo, California – August 15, 2018) – Using analysis of graduation rates, tuition,
loan debt, alumni earnings, and other data, Money magazine has identified the best
colleges in the U.S. – once again including California State University Maritime Academy
among the top schools in the nation.
"High rankings are always nice, but it is especially encouraging to see the positive
outcomes in the lives of our graduates on which these rankings are based," said Cal
Maritime President Thomas Cropper. "The hard work of Cal Maritime's faculty and staff
is certainly reflected in the many accolades the University has received in recent
years, and the hard work of our students is reflected in their success following graduation."
Among all the accredited colleges and universities in the U.S., Cal Maritime's ranking
(121) would place it comfortably in the top five percent. The publication also listed
the Academy number 37 of all small colleges and first among small colleges in the
West that made their list.
Cal Maritime has garnered significant recognition in recent years for its high-achieving
graduates and return on investment for students. U.S. Department of education data
show that Cal Maritime alumni rank as the top-earning graduates of any public university
in the state ten years after enrollment. A study by the Equality of Opportunity Project
ranked the Academy first in the state for raising students from the bottom 20 percent
in family income to the top twenty percent.
