(Vallejo, California – September 7, 2016) – Washington Monthly's College Guide once
again ranks Cal Maritime highly in both their overall "contribution to the public
good" rankings and in the Bang for the Buck category.
In the overall rankings which rated schools on their contribution to the public good,
Cal Maritime ranked sixth among all national baccalaureate colleges. The rankings
are based on three categories: recruiting and graduating low-income students; producing
cutting-edge scholarship; and encouraging students to give back to their country.
Among baccalaureate colleges in the west, Cal Maritime ranked third overall in "bang
for the buck" rankings. These rankings reflect the degree to which schools help non-wealthy
students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
"At Cal Maritime, we strive to provide our students with an education that will prepare
them for leadership roles in demanding and rewarding global industries," said President
Tom Cropper. "The high rankings that the Academy enjoys are a credit to our faculty,
staff, and administrators and especially to the graduates who go on to successful
careers."
Recently released data by the U.S. Department of Education ranked Cal Maritime seventh
in the nation and first in California for graduate earnings 10 years after enrollment.
The Academy is also one of only 15 four-year colleges in the U.S. to receive a perfect
score for "value added" to student outcomes in a study by the Brookings Institute.
Money magazine ranked the school as one of America's Best Public Colleges and bestvalueschools.com
recognized Cal Maritime as one of the 50 best value engineering schools. U.S. News
and World Report named it the number eight regional college in the west.
