“On Thursday, October 6th, six IBL cadets had the opportunity to attend a conversation between former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice and former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd about the latter’s new book, The Avoidable War: The Dangers of a Catastrophic Conflict between the U.S. and Xi Jinping’s China. Over 400 people attended the event, which was hosted by the Asia Society of Northern California. IBL student-volunteers helped the organizers with a variety of event-related logistics including registration, mic-running and traffic management. Mr. Rudd even interrupted his conversation with Dr. Rice to thank the students for their service! The event was especially memorable for first-year IBL student Marilee Zhu who had the opportunity to converse briefly with Mr. Rudd... in Chinese!”
