“Ready to handle even the biggest ships" is the credo of Jacobsen Pilot Service, a family firm that has been operating in the Port of Long beach for almost a century. A small group of IBL cadets were fortunate enough to be given a tour of the port on a Jacobsen pilot boat by none other than the firm’s president, Cal Maritime alumnus Thomas Jacobsen, who explained that the firm provides piloting services for some of the world’s largest container ships and oil tankers –ships that carry billions of dollars of cargo into the Port of Long Beach.
