President's Message

The Future is Bright

When we began our 2022 fall semester, it was clear that we would be preparing our cadets for a new world.

Not only are we preparing our cadets for careers in the Pacific Rim and beyond, but we are simultaneously fortifying our future to serve the needs of the next generation who may have yet to see the maritime industry as a pathway to a successful career.

Cal Maritime continues to be a resource leader in the maritime industry as we serve as the U.S. Maritime Administration's (MARAD) regional academy for California, Hawaii, Alaska, Washington, and Oregon.

At our Convocation this year, we saw that the future is indeed bright at Cal Maritime.

We remain committed to our Campus Strategic Goals: academic excellence, student experience, organizational excellence, partnerships and outreach, and inclusive excellence.

The 2016-2021 Strategic Plan was Cal Maritime's first ever, major comprehensive strategic planning effort in the institution's history. Despite an interruption of planning during the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan effort moves the needle forward to ensure that we stay the course. And with good reason.

In addition to our strategic plan, campus planning efforts include the waterfront masterplan, strategic enrollment master plan and an academic master plan.

Cal Maritime is a highly regarded institution where we graduate the best and brightest - the future leaders of the maritime industry. We also have devoted faculty and staff who work every day to enrich the experiences of our cadets both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you to our committee members and all those involved in this process that will continue to foster honest dialogue, data analysis, colorful ideation, and transparency.

Please join me and our campus community as we continue to chart this next course together.

In Service,

President Thomas A. Cropper
