Gary serves Cal Maritime as the Engine Company Officer and Associate Director of the
Edwards Leadership Development Program,
Gary is 20 year career Naval Officer bringing a wide variety leadership experience as a
Naval Special Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer and Senior Explosive Ordnance
Officer. Some of his previous leadership positions include Explosive Ordnance Mobile
Unit Executive Officer as well as Executive Officer of the USS Implicit MSO 455. He
qualified as Navy Ships Navigator, Underway Officer of the Deck and Engineering Officer
of the Watch.
Following his Navy Career he held positions as Senior Management Consultant with Booz
Allen Hamilton, launched his own management consulting practice, and served as a Career
Management Consultant for several boutique career management consulting and coaching
firms. Additionally, he held a position as the Director of Career Services for a
San Diego based career college. Most recently was an acting Managing Consultant for
a Life Science Consulting Firm.
Gary in the past as served as an adjunct professor for both National University and San
Diego State College teaching a wide range of courses in Leadership and Consulting.
He is also a certified facilitator through the Navy, Department of Defense and the
Stephen Covey Leadership Institute.
Gary holds an MA with a concentration in Management/Organizational Excellence from the
University of Redlands and a BS in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy.
Gary served during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in addition to making a deployment
with Underwater Demolition Team ELEVEN being the 1st United States forces to land
on Iwo Jima since World War II.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation
Medal and Navy Achievement Medal.
Gary and his wife, Maria, enjoy their time together seeing family at their home in Napa
and home away from home in San Diego.
