Sexual Assaults on Campus

CSU Maritime Academy recognizes that sexual assault is a serious issue and will not tolerate acts of sexual assault on campus. We are strongly committed to the establishment of a campus environment free of sexual assault. The Police Department offers sexual assault education through lectures and literature.

The Police Department will investigate all allegations of sexual assault and take appropriate disciplinary, criminal, or legal action with prior consent of the victim. Police personnel will protect the confidentiality of the victim in accordance with state law.

Complaint Procedure

  1. Get to a safe place.
  2. As soon as you feel safe, call the Police Department at 911. The Academy will assist you in notification of authorities. You can also contact a member of the housing staff. Filing a police report with a police officer will not obligate you to prosecute.
  3. Time is a critical factor for evidence collection and preservation.
  4. Filing a report will ensure that:
    • You receive the necessary medical treatment and tests, at no expense;
    • Provides you the opportunity for collection of evidence helpful in prosecution, which cannot be obtained later ideally a victim of sexual assault should not wash, douche, use the toilet, or change clothing prior to a medical/legal exam);
    • Assures you access to free confidential counseling from counselors specifically trained in the area of sexual assault crises intervention. Various counseling options are available from the Academy through the Student Health and Wellness Center. An Academy representative will guide you through the available options and support your decision.
  5. Do seek medical attention immediately.
  6. Don't go through this alone. Contact a close friend who can be with you.

A student found guilty of violating the Academy's sexual misconduct policy could be criminally prosecuted and subject to expulsion from the Academy without possibility of re-admission; suspension, probation, or any other such lesser sanction as may be prescribed.

Student victims have the option to change their academic and/or on-campus living situations after an alleged sexual assault, if such changes are reasonably available.

Disclosures to Alleged Victims of Crimes of Violence or Non-Forcible Sex Offenses:

The CSU Maritime Academy will upon written request disclose to the alleged victim of a crime of violence or a non-forcible sex offense, the report on the results of any disciplinary proceeding conducted by the Academy against a student who is the alleged perpetrator of such crime or offense.If the alleged victim is deceased as a result of such crime or offense, the next of kin of such victim shall be treated as the alleged victim.
