Programs and Services

The Cal Maritime Police Department provides 24 hours a day, year round, protection for the campus community. We are a fully vested police department, recognized by the California Police Officers Standards of Training. Police department personnel are the first responders to campus emergencies.

The department is empowered as a full- service state law enforcement agency pursuant to section 830.2 (b) of the California Penal Code and fully subscribes to the standards of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Officers receive the same basic training as city and county peace officers throughout the state, plus additional training to meet the unique needs of a campus environment.

The department handles all patrol, investigation, crime prevention education, emergency preparedness, and related law enforcement duties for the campus community and operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The University Police Department currently has 9 sworn police officers and 7 non-sworn, Community Service Specialists (CSS). Community Service Specialists respond to service calls, assist with security patrol, educational programs, parking enforcement, and conduct vehicle and foot patrol.

The department has joined with Benicia Police Department for dispatch services. They serve as our first point of contact for emergencies, non-emergencies, and other service requests. They coordinate communications between police officers and other support staff. Additionally, dispatchers are responsible for coordinating emergency response for both on-campus and off-campus resources, such as fire and medical services. The Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, year around.

The Cal Maritime Police Department maintains a working relationship with all local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The Cal Maritime Police Department has established an agreement with the Vallejo Police Department for the interagency provision of emergency services to the campus.
