Fall 2020 Admission Process Timeline

September 4 - December 13, 2019
Best time for fall semester weekday campus visits


October 1-31, 2019

Note, Due to the California fires and power outages, we are extending the Early Action deadline to November 7 for all freshman applicants - regardless of where they live.

30-day application period for Cal Maritime's Early Action (EA) Program – (Option for freshman applicants only) – All freshman admission applications submitted through www.calstate.edu/apply early admission option on the application.

October 2019
Last month to take the SAT or ACT for Early Action (EA) puposes. Scores must arrive by November 15, 2019.


October 1, 2019 - December 15, 2019
The application period for Cal Maritime's Regular Application (RA) Program - (Option for freshman and transfer applicants) – All admission applications submitted through www.calstate.edu/apply during this period will be considered for the Regular Admission Program if students do not select the regular admission option on the application. After November 30, a few majors may remain open until all spaces are filled.


October 27, 2019
"Preview Day" Saturday open house for prospective students


December 2019
Last month to take SAT or ACT for regulary (RA) admission purposes. Scores must arrive by January 11, 2020.


October 1, 2019 - March 2, 2020
Financial Aid Applications (FAFSA) for the fall can be submitted during this period


January 2, 2020 - May 1, 2020
Best time for spring semester weekday campus visits


February 1, 2020
Admission application notifications begin for Freshmen (February 15 for Transfer Students)


April 1, 2020
Priority date to submit health forms and receive a medical review before May 1 if no additional medical information is determined to be necessary. 
The final deadline for health documents is May 1.


April 18, 2020
"Cal Maritime Day" Campus open house for admitted students and families


May 1, 2020
Deadline for admitted students to send Cal Maritime the (non-refundable) $500 enrollment deposit, Admission Acknowledgement Form, health documents, and Housing License Agreement or fall space may not be available


May 15, 2020
"Smart Page" available through MyCalMaritime student portal and PeopleSoft for those required to take Early Start to tell us their plans to do so.


May 31, 2020
Last day to receive any additional SAT or ACT scores to possibly increase scores and remove a students Early Start Program requirement and (if Early Start is required) tell us their plans to take Early Start at any CSU campus (or equivalent remediating courses elsewhere). Cal Maritime's Admission Office will contact those who must participate in the Early Start program by May 15 and give instructions on how to indicate which course(s) each student chooses to fulfill the Early Start requirement.


June 2, 2020
Deadline for those who are required to take Early Start to indicate their chosen method of completing the requirement on their Early Start "Smart Page" via their PeopleSoft Student Services page within their Student Portal.


July 15, 2020
Final transcripts are due from newly enrolling students

Either online registration period for new students or time when all new students are pre-enrolled in courses by the Registrar's Office


August date 2019 (TBD)
Newly enrolling students must prove adequate medical insurance or be required to purchase the Cal Maritime medical insurance


August date 2019 (TBD)
Student charges are due unless prior arrangements have been made with the Student Accounts Office. Students with financial aid should contact the Financial Aid Office to understand how financial aid interacts with campus financial due dates.

Campus housing move-in by appointment.


August date 2019 (TBD)
New Student Orientation begins for all students (including those living off-campus)  - All new students must attend all days.

The Fall, 2020 Application Deadline Has Been Extended for

 - B.A. in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs
 - B.S. in Oceanography

Students wanting to apply to the following majors for Fall, 2020 should call or email the Admission Office for availability:

 - B.S. in Marine Engineering Technology
 - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (General Option)
 - B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (U.S. Coast Guard License Option)
