Commercial Cruise, Internships, and Careers

Our Mechanical Engineering (ME) students highly sought after upon graduation.  

ME students pursuing the US Coast Guard 3rd Assistant Engineers License Option can use their license to sail as an engineer aboard commercial vessels or use the licensure to demonstrate technical knowledge and competencies that can valuable to employers.  Those students seeking a US Coast Guard 3rd Assistant Engineers License will participate in two sixty day training cruises aboard the TS Golden Bear and one Commercial Cruise.  

ME students pursing the Energy Design Option or the Mechanical Design Option will graduate with three summers of work experience on their resume.  These students will participate aboard one sixty training cruise aboard the TS Golden Bear and two eight-week engineering or scientific internships.  

 

Commercial Cruise (Internship at Sea) 

All students in the Mechanical Engineering degree seeking a US Coast Guard 3rd Assistants Licenses are required to do a sixty day commercial cruise. Commercial Cruise is completed your sophomore summer after successfully passing the first training ship cruise.  For Commercial Cruise you will sail aboard an actual working Merchant Marine Vessel.  This is an opportunity to get hands on training through opportunities around the world and on all type of vessel platforms and engine types.
