Assessment of Student Learning & Program Review
Assessment of Student Learning
Cal Maritime recognizes that a dedicated commitment to teaching and learning necessarily includes processes of assessment and documentation for purposes of educational effectiveness and accountability. Assessment is a vehicle which drives continuous educational improvement. The assessment of student learning emanates primarily from three sources: our Institution-Wide Assessment Council, academic Program Reviews, and external testing and assessment measurements. Our assessment data, reviews, calendars and plans can be found on the Assessment Portal.
The Institution-Wide Assessment Council (IWAC) is responsible for promulgating and sustaining the assessment of institution-wide academic student learning outcomes. Information, resources, and additional material on campus-wide assessment and assessment policies can be found here:

Academic Program Review
The purpose of academic program review at Cal Maritime is to acknowledge the strengths and seek ways of further enhancing the quality of academic programs. In general terms, this is accomplished by conducting a periodic review of the program’s mission and goals as they relate to the mission of the institution; the curriculum through which the program's mission and goals are pursued; the extent to which the program is achieving its objectives for student learning; the quality and diversity of the faculty and staff and their contributions to achieving the program’s mission and goals; and the quality of the infrastructure supporting the program.
