FAQ - Accounts and Passwords
Q: I forgot my password. How do I get it reset?
A: In the event you forget your Cal Maritime Windows password, please come into the Help Desk for a password reset. If you are aboard the Training Ship Golden Bear during cruise, contact the IT staff member assigned to cruise. Otherwise, if you are not able to come to campus, call the Help Desk during business hours so the Network Operations Staff can verify information to reset the password.
Q: If I tried logging on multiple times, has my account been locked?
A: Yes. If you have tried to logon three times (or more) without success, your Window account was automatically locked. Follow the instrutions for the question above (I forgot my password) but be sure to tell the IT staff that you think the account may be locked.
Q: How often must I change my password?
A: The system forces faculty and staff to change their passwords 90 days after the last time they changed their password. Students are required to change their passwords at least once a year.
Q: Is notification given before a password must be changed?
A: Yes. However, Macintosh users may not see these notifications.
Q: I've heard that you are not supposed to write your passwords down. How can I remember so many of them?
A: Several suggestions may be found in the Accounts & Passwords section of this website.
Q: Who do I see about problems with my password or account?
A: Individuals on campus should drop by or call the It Support Center. Crew onboard the ship during cruise should see the IT staff support member.
