Disability Services for Family and Friends at Cal Maritime's Annual Commencement Ceremonies
Lot D (along the waterfront) has been designated a disability parking zone. Vehicles with handicapped placards are the only ones allowed to park in disability spaces. If you are transporting a person with disabilities who does not currently have a placard, we recommend he/she make a request for a temporary parking decal permit from his/her physician. Disability parking placards are issued by the DMV. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/disabled.htm
Please be aware requesting and receiving a placard may take several weeks.
Accessible seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of commencement. The California Maritime Academy will make every effort to accommodate persons needing disability seating on commencement day, however accessible seating is limited; advanced planning and early arrival are strongly encouraged. Seats cannot be held by other family members or by using pieces of clothing, etc. We cannot ensure disability seating will be contiguous with other family seating. We do try to provide a seat adjacent to a family member or an attendant to accompany those needing accessible seating. Overflow accessible seating is provided in Rizza Auditorium adjacent to the ceremony tent which is clearly marked with the international symbol of accessibility. Commencement will be streamed live in Rizza Auditorium.
Questions on accessibility may be directed to Dr.Vivienne McClendon in the Office of Disability Services at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 707-654-1283.
