Dr. Nael Aly, Academic DeanDr. Nael Aly is the Academic Dean at The California Maritime Academy. The Academic Dean manages all academic programs, including faculty hiring and evaluation, as well as academic budget. He works with department chairs and faculty to update curricula and develop new programs. He reviews the academic standing of students, places students on probation or disqualification, and selects students for the Dean’s List. He also oversees the Center for Engagement, Teaching and Learning and audio/visual services.

Prior to his appointment as Academic Dean at Cal Maritime, Dr. Aly was Professor of Operations Management at California State University, Stanislaus, where he also served as Dean of the College of Business Administration, Assistant to the Dean of the College of Business Administration, Founding Director of the Executive MBA Program, and Chair of the Management, Operations, and Marketing Department.
Dr. Aly received a Ph.D. and M.S. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Production Engineering from Alexandria University. Dr. Aly's professional interests lie in the Quality Management and Lean Enterprise fields. He has written numerous papers on Total Quality Management (TQM) and Statistical Process Control (SPC), and on the implementation of these in manufacturing, hospitals, educational institutions, and Mexico's maquiladoras. Dr. Aly has designed and conducted many training programs on these topics for both U.S. and international organizations including Proctor and Gamble, Campbell Soup, Con-Agra, and Owens Illinois. He has also worked as a quality management consultant in SPC, TQM, and ISO 9000 and their implementation for manufacturing and service organizations such as Stanislaus County Economic Development Corporation, Emanuel Medical Center, Campbell Soup, Banquet Foods, Georgia Pacific, Gallo Glass, and Diamond Walnut.
Dr. Aly is currently a senior member of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) and American Society for Quality (ASQ). He is also a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS), the Business Honor Society (Beta Gamma Sigma), the Engineering Honor Society (Tau Beta Pi), the Industrial Engineering Honor Society (Alpha Pi Mu), the Honor Society for Collegiate Schools of Business (Beta Gamma Sigma), the Honor Society (Phi Kappa Phi), and the Honors Organization for Financial Information Professionals (Beta Alpha Psi). Dr. Aly is the executive director of the Association for Industry, Engineering and Management Systems (AIEMS) and he has been a conference co-Chair for the International Conference on Industry, Engineering, and Management Systems since 1997. He is the senior editor of the Journal of Management & Engineering Integration (JMEI) and has been a reviewer for many professional journals and conferences.  Dr. Aly also served as guest and keynote speaker for many professional meetings and conferences both in the U.S. and internationally.
