Residential Living at California Maritime Academy
California Maritime Academy offers several styles of facilities and living options to accommodate student needs. Each residence hall has various amenities specific to that facility, which students of the building are able to utilize. The majority of rooms on campus are double occupancy (shared by two students) spaces. All double occupancy rooms have 2 beds, desks, chairs, and dressers.
Campus Residential Facilities
Lower Residence Hall - A suite style building which houses primarily junior and senior students and Quiet Housing
McAllister Hall - A suite style building which houses primarily sophomore students and Quiet Housing
Upper Residence Hall - A traditional residence hall which houses first year students
Training Ship Golden Bear - A work ship which houses both first year students and upperclassmen
Specialty Living Options
A student residing in a Quiet Housing facilities agrees to limit the noise in his/her room and his/her impact on other students to maintain an environment that promotes academic success and growth. Expectations of Quiet Housing students including keeping room doors closed while watching tv or listening to music, utilizing headphones as need to decrease noise production, and refraining from hosting large gatherings that may produce excessive noise. A 24 hour quiet policy is also in place throughout all Quiet Housing Facilities.
For juniors and senior students Quiet Housing is available in Lower Residence Hall B2 & B3. For sophomore students, Quiet Housing is available in McAllister Residence Hall.
A limited number of single rooms are available for students in Lower Residence Hall. Due to the small amount of single rooms available, priority is granted to students based on the following criteria: currently residing in a single room, class standing and conduct history. Single rooms have one set of furniture and bathroom facilities are shared by 7 other students. Any returning student requesting a single room must fill out a Single Room Application and turn it into the Office of Housing & Residential Life by April 2nd, 2013 at 4:00 pm. A student granted a single room will be charged the single listed on the Housing & Licensing Agreement for the space.
First-Year Shipboard Living Learning Community:
The licensed track majors at Cal Maritime Academy will be required to take part in our First-Year Shipboard Living Learning Community. Students participating in the Shipboard Living Community will reside one semester in Upper Residence Hall and one semester aboard Training Ship Golden Bear. Students will be informed via their room assignment which semester they wills spend aboard Training Ship Golden Bear. The semester aboard ship is designed to provide students with an opportunity to familiarize students with the ship layout, systems, and policies prior to the summer training cruise.
Room Selection Information
First year students will be assigned to one of the first year experience facilities (Upper Residence Hall or Training Ship Golden Bear) based on the information provided on their Housing & Licensing Agreement. Note that California Maritime Academy defines all students attending CMA for the first time as first year students regardless of previous academic history or age. All returning students will select a room assignment for the upcoming year in April of the previous year during the room selection process.
Students have the opportunity to request a specific roommate on the Housing & Licensing Agreement. All roommate request are granted on a first received basis and based on campus availability.
