California Maritime Academy Police Services
The California Maritime Academy Police Services Department provides 24 hours a day, year around, protection for the campus community. Police Services is a fully vested Police Department, recognized by the California Police Officers Standards of Training. Police Services personnel are the first responders to campus emergencies.
The department is authorized 11 police officers and currently has seven sworn officers. Our law enforcement responsibilities govern university property and officers have full peace officer powers, including arrest per California Penal Code Section 830.2. Per state statue, our authority extends one mile beyond the university. There are also seven non-sworn community services specialists. Community Services Specialists respond to service calls, assist with security patrol, educational programs, parking enforcement, and conduct vehicle and foot patrol.
The department has joined with San Jose State University Police Department for dispatch services. The Communications Center, located on the San Jose State University, is staffed by dedicated CSU Police Dispatchers. They serve as our first point of contact for emergencies, non-emergencies, and other service requests. They coordinate communications between police officers and other support staff. Additionally, dispatchers are responsible for coordinating emergency response for both on-campus and off-campus resources, such as fire and medical services. The Communications Center is open 24 hours a day, year around.
University Police maintain a working relationship with all local, county, state and federal public safety agencies. Police Services has established an agreement with the Vallejo Police Department for the interagency provision of emergency public safety services to the campus.
