Common Core State Standards and the Future of CSU College Readiness Efforts

No single system of education in California can address our challenges of college and career readiness alone.  Educators at all levels recognize that how successful a student is in college is reliant upon his or her accumulative learning from early childhood on.  The adoption of the California Common Core State Standards (CCCSS) provides an ideal opportunity to build an infrastructure of collaboration across educational systems.

With the onset of the CCCSS, following the 2013-14 school year, the Grade 11 Smarter Balance assessment will be utilized instead of the CST/EAP as an early indicator of college readiness.  However, EAP college readiness promotion initiatives and high school/college partnerships, along with the ERWC and SMI Professional Learning curricula, will continue to be supported by the CSU as cornerstones of K12-to-college collaboration.  We look forward to building new ways of collaborating with our local schools in an effort to strengthen pipelines to college readiness and the overall college-going culture of our region.
