Title IX

COVID-19 Update: In response to directives from the federal and state government (California Stay at Home Order), and state and local health agencies, Cal Maritime has transitioned to providing most services virtually during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Therefore, Title IX efforts have transitioned to a virtual format: available by phone and email. All meetings (including hearings and investigatory interviews) will be conducted via Zoom or other similar videoconferencing platform. The online complaint process that has been available for several years remains live for students, employees and third parties to report potential policy violations.

Visit the Cal Maritime COVID-19 webpage for up to date information on our response to COVID-19.

Title IX Federal Update:

In November 2018, the U.S. Department of Education issued a proposal to amend the regulations implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The proposed regulations focused on sexual harassment (including sexual assault) and were intended to replace prior guidance issued by the Federal Government.

The Federal Title IX Rules have now been released and may be viewed via the Department of Education website. The new set of regulations will be effective August 14, 2020.

The Title IX Coordinator is available to answer questions and discuss concerns.

California State University Maritime Academy does not discriminate on the basis of gender, which includes sex and gender identity or expression, or sexual orientation in its education programs or activities. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and certain other federal and state laws, prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender or sexual orientation in employment, as well as in all education programs and activities operated by the University (both on and off campus). The protection against discrimination on the basis of gender or sexual orientation includes sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and gender based dating and domestic violence and stalking.
