Olympic Medal Winner and TedX Speaker Coming to Cal Maritime
(Vallejo, California – September 16, 2016) – Natalie Dell O'Brien, medal-winning Olympic rower and TEDx speaker, will present How to Think Like an Olympian in a free presentation at California State University Maritime Academy on Thursday, October 13. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. in Rizza Auditorium on the campus.
O'Brien is a 2010-2012 Team USA Rower. She sat bow seat in the 2012 Olympic lineup and was one of only two athletes on the 2012 Olympic rowing team who hailed from a collegiate club program. She and her teammates were the first U.S. crew team to medal in the quad sculls event since it became a 2,000 meter event in 1985.
After retiring from competitive sports in 2012, she moved to Silicon Valley and currently works at Google where she oversees the Google digital marketing experience for large healthcare organizations. As a TEDx speaker, she often speaks to universities, high schools, and workforces at Fortune 500 companies with a simple message: work hard, think big, and be willing to fail.
The presentation is part of the Cal Maritime President's Lecture Series and the University's Common Reading Program, under which all incoming students read the same book prior to arriving on campus. This year's selection is The Boys on the Boat by Daniel James Brown, the story of the U.S. Olympic crew team and their quest for gold at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.
