September 15, 2015 marks 20 years since Cal Maritime joined the California State University system. This union is a critical date in the history of the Academy, for without the support of the CSU, Cal Maritime would not exist today. Given the importance of Cal Maritime to the maritime industry and the economy of the state and the nation, this anniversary enjoys significance well beyond the borders of our campus.
As with many summers past, the campus has undergone many changes while the Training Ship and many of the students and faculty have been away. The physical changes on our campus these past few months are numerous: renovations and improvements to the Student Center, Mayo Hall, residence halls, meeting spaces and more will improve the lives of our students and enhance the experience for everyone who lives or works on campus as well as our many visitors. Critical to the success of the enhanced student experience is the creation of the new Student Services Building, a one-stop shop where all of the main student support functions of the University are housed, including the Registrar's Office, Admissions, Financial Aid, and Career Services.
I hope you will make the time to walk around campus and see many of the improvements first hand. I also hope you will join me in rededicating yourself to the service of our students as they prepare themselves for a future of leadership at sea and on shore.
Welcome back to the world's finest maritime academy for another exciting and eventful year!
