Dr. Michael K. Mahoney has enjoyed a rich and distinguished career as both an academic administrator and a faculty member. His most recent position was provost and WASC accreditation liaison officer at Trident University. Prior to that, he served as the provost at CSU East Bay, where he also served for a year as chair of the Academic Senate. Dr. Mahoney began his career at CSU Long Beach as a math and computer science professor in the 1980s. Later, he was elected chair of the computer engineering and computer science department and eventually became dean of engineering at CSULB in 2000. He also served as associate vice president for academic technology there.
Dr. Mahoney holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He has published papers in computer science and mathematics, and co-authored two computer science books (Mac OS X, NeXT/Unix). He won the campus Distinguished Teaching Award at CSULB when he was a computer science professor --- a clear demonstration of his commitment to meaningful engagement with students, faculty and staff. Dr. Mahoney has been married to Louise Mahoney for more than 30 years and has two children, one a veterinarian and the other a software engineer at Apple.
