(VALLEJO, California – April 15, 2015) – Rear Admiral Thomas K. Shannon, Commander of Military Sealift Command will be the keynote speaker at Cal Maritime's commencement on Saturday, April 23. 

Shannon is a 1982 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy. Military Sealift Command is a United States Navy organization that controls the replenishment and military transport ships of the Navy. The United States Military Sealift Command has the responsibility for providing sealift and ocean transportation for all US military services as well as for other government agencies.
 
The military commissioning for students who entered as ensigns into the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or the Merchant Marine Reserve will be held at 10:00 a.m. on the Campus Quad. The commencement ceremony will be held on the Quad beginning at 1:30 p.m. During the ceremony, 212 undergraduates and 24 students from the Master's Program in Transportation and Engineering Management will receive their diplomas. This year's master's program graduates are the fourth class to graduate from the program and the largest yet.
 
U.S. Department of Education data released last year show that Cal Maritime graduates lead all California universities' alumni in earnings ten years after enrollment. Nationally, they rank seventh.
