Are you Ready to Come Aboard and Save Your Space at Cal Maritime?
Some of our majors may be closed, others may be taking a waiting list, and others may have one or two spaces still available.
If you are still interested in sending in your enrollment deposit, please contact the Admission Office using a method on the right. We can discuss your options at this late date based on the major into which you were admitted. If a space is available in the major into which you are admitted, the only way to guarantee your space is to submit the following items by the date indicated by the Admission Office:
the non-refundable $500 deposit, the Admission Acknowledgment Form, and the medical documents from the online New Student Guide.
Be sure to NOT send in any paperwork until you have communicated with the Admission Office to make sure a space is available and that a space is held for you until your deposit and paperwork arrive in our office.

The New Student Guide includes all forms that must be sent back by May 1, 2013 (along with the $500 non-refundable deposit) to save your space. You May Need to Take
the English (EPT) and Math (ELM) Proficiency Tests
(Required for Some - Read to see if you are waived from this requirement)
Demonstrating English and Math Proficiency is required for all entering CSU students at all CSU campuses, from Cal Maritime to Cal Poly to San Jose State to San Diego State. This is a great time to figure out how you will demonstrate YOUR proficiency in math and English. One way to do this is to sign up to take the CSU college placement exams called the ELM (math) and EPT (English) offered in February, March, and April. If you wait until later in the spring to take these exams, you may have to take summer courses and may even be prevented from registering for fall college courses
Scores on Other Tests or Some College Courses May Show Proficiency and Eliminate the Need to Take the ELM or EPT Tests.
You may be able to avoid taking the placement exams by showing proficiency in other ways. You can see all the items that waive the

You would be waived from needing the examinations at any CSU campus if:
- You meet the minimum SAT or ACT score
- You meet the minimum EAP (Early Assessment Program) score
- You have taken and passed a qualifying college English course and/or qualifying college math course

If you are not waived from needing the placement exams by one of the methods above, then you should take the ELM and/or EPT at any CSU campus testing site (or arranged testing site for out-of-state students) between now and April. Early Start Program
California residents who do not pass either of these two tests (ELM and EPT) must enroll in and complete approved summer courses or they cannot enroll for any courses in the fall semester. For more information see our Early Start page.
Set Up Your Medical Exam and Fill Out the Medical Forms
Set up an appointment with your physician for a full examination. The forms your doctor needs to complete can be accessed by clicking here. These forms are due to our Health Center by May 1, 2012. But those who wish a priority medical review prior to May 1, 2013 may receive one if the medical forms are submitted by April 1, 2013 and no additional medical tests or documents are required. Remember that you cannot enroll unless you are medically cleared by Cal Maritime’s Health Review Committee. In some cases, a medical clearance may limit enrollment to only certain majors to be explained in notifications by the Health Review Committee.
About the Mandatory Health Insurance Requirement
It is the policy of the California Maritime Academy to require all enrolled students to maintain Cal Maritime student health insurance or comparable private insurance. This is due to the special nature of the educational experience at the Academy, which includes an international training cruise or international study experience.
If you are currently NOT INSURED:
You will be automatically enrolled in the Cal Maritime insurance plan that meets all school requirements.
If you are CURRENTLY INSURED and wish to maintain your current insurance, you must:
Request a waiver from purchasing Cal Maritime's insurance plan by completing the online insurance waiver on the Student Health Services web site at http://www.csum.edu/web/health-services/required-health-insurance. The deadline to complete the online waiver from mandatory school health insurance is July 8, 2013. Please note - It is the responsibility of the student to inform Cal Maritime when coverage changes after any waiver has been granted.

Our Open House Exclusively for Accepted Students and Their Families
Saturday, April 13, 2013, Registration - 8am, Program - 9am-3pm
Cal Maritime Day is designed for you to look over the Academy from stem to stern.
- Tour the residence halls, the simulators, the Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR, the classrooms, and the labs
- Learn about your major from professors, current students, and recent alumni
- See the surprising variety of clubs and organizations to round out your education
- A continental breakfast and lunch is available.
While the event is not mandatory in any way, it's designed for both those who are still deciding where to attend next fall AND those who have already chosen Cal Maritime. We hope to see you there!

*Deposits sent on or before May 1 may be in the form of an e-check or an online credit card payment via this link or by check or money order made out to the California Maritime Academy and mailed to the address in the right column of this page. Please write the name of the student on the check.
Please note - Payments sent after May 1 may only be in the form of check or money order and may be returned if all spaces in your major have been filled by those who sent their deposits on or before the May 1 deadline.
